R.V Raju’s death widely mourned

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police Department condoled the demise of former Director General of National Investigation Agency R.V Raju who expired in Kochi last night.
Top officials of police department, members of civil society and journalists in a condolence meeting this morning paid tributes to the former police officer.
R.V Raju was the founder Director General of the NIA.
Raju was appointed on January 19, 2009 as the first Chief of NIA set up in the wake of 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes.
A 1975 batch IPS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, Raju handled the case of the US citizen Lashkar-e-Toiba David Headley.
Before being appointed as NIA Chief, Raju was the Director General (Vigilance) of Jammu and Kashmir.
Governor, N.N Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Devender Singh Rana and Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar have condoled the sad demise of R.V Raju, former State Vigilance Commissioner and ex-Director General, National Investigation Agency, who passed away at Kochi on Thursday morning. Born in 1949, Raju breathed his last at a private hospital in Kochi after a brief illness.
Recalling Raju’s dedicated services to the State, the Governor, in a condolence message, conveyed his sympathy to members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. Describing Raju a gentleman who led a principled life, the Chief Minister said that Raju was an extremely competent police officer with unblemished meritorious career.
Additional Director General of Police Security, Ram Lubhaya has been deputed to attend the funeral of Raju at Kochi.
Describing Raju a professional police officer, Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani said that his contribution as a police officer would be the beacon light for the Police Department of the J and K State.
Minister for Sports and Medical Education, R.S Chib also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Advisor to Chief Minister Devinder Rana has also expressed his grief and sorrow on the sad demise of Raju and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Raju and the family.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajindera in a message also condoled the sad demise of R V Raju.
“Raju was a professionally outstanding officer who successfully investigated many sensational cases including the assassination of former PM Rajiv Gandhi and ensuring conviction of the accused,” the DG said.
Rajindera said one of senior most Jammu and Kashmir Police Officers from Srinagar would fly to Cochin to attend Raju’s last rites on behalf of the State Government carrying the message of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“Raju was one of the finest officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police and he always remained an inspiration and a guide for his subordinates and colleagues,” IGP Jammu Dilbagh Singh said in a condolence message here.
A condolence meet was organised by IGP Jammu Zone, Dilbagh Singh here on Thursday in District Police Lines Jammu. The condolence meet was attended by officers and Jawans of various wings of J and K Police. A two minute silence was observed and prayers offered for peace of the departed soul and grant of courage for the family members to bear this irreparable loss.
Floral tributes were also paid to R. V Raju on this occasion.
The police officers pledged to tread on the path shown by R. V Raju. The officers, senior citizens and other retired officers who spoke on the occasion included IGP Home Gaurds/CD Youginder Kaul,   DIG Jammu Range J.P Singh;  DIG Armed Jammu, Johni William; DIG CID, Surinder Gupta; SSP Jammu, Prabhat Singh; Commandant IRP 10th Bn, Vijay Singh Samya; Yashpaul Gupta, senior and prominent citizens, Sardar Khan, Retired SP, J.K Mishri, Retired SP.
On behalf of officers and officials of Zonal Police Headquarters Inspector General of Police Kashmir S.M Sahai condoled the sad demise of former Director General of Police,  R.V Raju.
Inspector General of Police, Railway, A.Q Manhas highlighted the contributions made by Raju and said that Raju was one of the most honest, efficient and renowned personality in the field of policing.
General Secretary, Pradesh Congress Committee, Vinod Sharma expressed grief and prayed to Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss.
